Peekaboo is a bi/trilingual setting where children of all nationalities and cultures aged 1 to 6 are most welcomed.

The Bi/Trilingual Playschool is an innovative and multicultural full-time day care center and kindergarten, where children are immersed in a German, English and Serbian speaking environment.

We focus on supporting the children’s holistic development and their individual needs and abilities.

Special approach in work with children means well devised bi/trilingual preschool program with elements of Montessori program as well as combining the best traditions of several national programs and carefully chosen professional team of teachers.

Peekaboo is an early years center where learning and teaching is conducted through teacher-led and child-initiated activities.

Our mission is based on individual approach and appreciation of every child’s authenticity. That is the only way to follow the developmental phases in child’s life as well as to apply true guidance and evaluation tools. Every child is unique, has unique set of talents, responds to challenges and experiences differently, and has different wishes and needs. Our duty is to be able to recognize and nurture their talents and needs and treat them with love, respect and understanding of their feelings.

For every child process of growing up means that he or she will have to face some challenging and potentially painful situations. In order to cope with these situations, children need our love and support. We carry out our daily tasks highly motivated and eager to be there for them every step of the way. In order to achieve results through systematic efforts and to maintain quality of our service, we have established long term cooperation with a: psychologist, psychotherapist, speech therapist and pediatrician.

We guide and support each child’s holistic development by inculcating a creative and enquiring mind.

We work in harmony with the parents and other specialists for the positive development, progress and continuity of each and every child in our care.

METHOD

Through play child is creatively directed to learn and develop positive aspects of their personality and adopt new knowledge about themselves and the world around.

Main method is learning through creative and structured game.

It is crucial to follow their inquiries, listen attentively and adapt to their needs. Our program is thus adapted to foster creative, social, intellectual and physical development. Through our creative workshops children play and investigate and discover the world around them.

The curricilum is divided in following sections:

  • English/German Language Arts ( communication, language development)
  • Mathematics ( problem solving, logical mathematical)
  • Science and Technology/Engineering/research
  • Comprehensive Health/ Physical/ (gross and fine motor)
  • The Arts ( various visual art techniques, music, dance, drama)
  • Social studies ( personal-social development and self concept, culture Second Step Program)

Program activities include:

  • Various activities outdoors
  • Field trips
  • Corrective gymnastics
  • Artistic workshops
  • Interesting science
  • Visits to the museums, theaters, art galleries

Creative workshops comprise:

  • painting, drawing, sculpting
  • music (active listening, playing, singing, dancing)
  • drama (different techniques, acting, role playing, recitals)
  • social/psychological (personal development, building self confidence, contact with emotions, empathy, problem solving)

Peekaboo cooperates with renowned artists in their respective fields through creative workshops where children have the opportunity to experience firsthand creative process of artistic work. Our guests join us several times a year – string quartet, brass trio, painters, cinematographers (learning about the film and camera). These workshops and games result in exhibitions of children s work: plays, puppet shows, dance choreography….

Discover the world program that involves learning about different cultures, people, and customs-an introduction into multicultural world of today. This program is intended for the parents and their children in order to present their countries and cultures to their friends.

How does multilingual education work?

BENEFITS AND ADVANTAGES OF MULTILINGUAL EDUCATION

Children between age of 2 and 7 are at the peak of capacity to adopt new languages as their maternal. Multilingual approach to learning new languages is proved to be successful; children communicate and juggle with several languages with ease.

The first six years of life mark a time of exceptional physical and psychological growth, exploration, and development. This is the period of the absorbent mind when young children are capable of absorbing huge amounts of information about the environment through their senses (taste, smell, touch, sight, and hearing).

Balanced multilingual education results in cognitive, linguistic and social advantages

Parents considering a bilingual education for their child recognize that there are advantages of learning more than one language early in life. What many don’t realize is that children educated within balanced multilingual programs develop linguistic, cognitive and social skills that enable them to outperform their monolingual peers.

The best chance for success

The best method of multilingual education “immerses” the child in the languages without “submersing” the child in the languages. Typical rules specify the use of many contextual clues (pictures, body language), separation of languages, and excellent coordination and planning between teachers that includes careful repetition of key vocabulary in both, or more languages. For new children starting later in age in such a program, some tutoring is helpful at the beginning in order to give the child a jump-start in the new language, and rigorous testing must be delayed for some time to allow the child a chance to catch up with the others (which, he or she certainly will do).

These advantages result in creating a mindset of a multilingual child that accepts new language as their own.

English and Serbian program is 4 hours a day, same as German and Serbian. All three languages have equal number of activities during the day.
